Where did They Learn That?
By Shae, November 2005
Society influences teenagers more now than in any other generation. Teenagers have a constant stream of voices coming from TV shows, video games, text messages, and radio stations. With the world at their fingertips, teenagers are constantly bombarded with images, audio clips, and text on the Internet telling them what to think, how to feel, and where to go. The media is indoctrinating our children.
But what is it teaching them? The answer is easy, turn on the nearest television, computer, or radio. It won’t be long before your own personal morals are put into question. If you are wondering where your teen is learning that offensive language and abusive behavior, don’t be surprised when the answer is your home.
Though you yourself may have strong religious and personal morals and beliefs, the media within your home does not. Next time you turn on your favorite sitcom consider what message you are sending to your children.
